What does success mean to you? Does it mean a filled-to-the-brim bank account? Does it mean a career that earns you a living? Is it the acquiring of a particular kind of relationship? Success is a word loaded with connotations, and I think it means different things to different people.
I think of myself as being successful, primarily because I am happy and content with my life. That doesn’t mean that I don’t strive for things, or have goals, because this is actually part of why I am happy. If you wander through your life without goals or aspirations, you may end up feeling somewhat lost or deflated. Goals and aspirations give us clear direction. The way I look at my goals and aspirations though, may be different to some. I do not solely focus on the acquisition of the things that I want… I focus on feeling good, moment to moment. And this will help to ensure the manifestation of the things that I want and the things that are aligned with my highest good.
But back to the concept of success… I feel that if you wake up in the morning with a smile and appreciation for what you have in your life, and go to bed in this same fashion, that you will feel successful and you will feel abundant and happy.
I think another important factor when it comes to being successful is the notion of fulfillment. When I pray to the universe for the things that I most desire, I also pray for the experience of being fulfilled in my life. If you feel fulfilled, then you will feel successful, and happy, and more aligned with your true-love nature.
I feel extremely fulfilled in my life, because I work in a job that exercises my full potential. I am so blessed for this reason. I am also fulfilled because I have a very intimate relationship and connection to my own version of spirituality… and what’s more, the universe. My spiritual practice, using prayer and meditation primarily, deepens my connection to the life that I live every day, and this is something that you can follow suit with. If you are struggling with the notion of fulfillment, then I urge you to take a closer look at what spirituality means to you… and embrace spiritual practices.
So being both happy and fulfilled brings us a lot closer to true success. But I also think that success comes from loving who you are, and believing in yourself. If we constantly battle with ourselves, or if we hide the true essence or authenticity of who we are, then life will feel like a battle…and it will feel like a show that we must put a mask on for. On the other hand, if we truly embrace who we are, appreciate who we are, and express ourselves authentically, the way we experience life will be much different, and much more empowering. It will be much easier to reside in a state of joy… which is the ultimate goal.
I don’t live in a state of joy and happiness constantly… I worry and obsess about things sometimes. but the moments of joy throughout the day add up to a different experience of the world for me. The moments keep adding up and the joy and peace is beginning to outweigh any negativity that floats in from time to time.
I don’t have a huge bank account and I don’t have everything in my life that I could possibly want. But I wake up in the morning with a smile on my face and I go to sleep at night with a smile on my face. I feel great appreciation for my life and for the person that I am… and I believe in myself.
Now for me, that is the true meaning of success.
I am successful and I am blessed.
